RESUMEN

SUMMARY: Few international studies have analyzed the characteristics of elite wheelchair curlers competing on the international stage. This study aims to investigate the physical fitness parameters of elite Chinese wheelchair curlers and explore the corresponding training enlightenment. Sixteen wheelchair curlers from the Chinese national team, including six male and two female Winter Paralympic gold medalists, were selected as research participants. The following parameters were measured: age, training age, height, weight, body fat percentage, grip strength, absolute bench press strength, and 5-km wheelchair push-timing test. Compared with ordinary curlers of the Chinese wheelchair curling team, elite curlers were older in age and training age; male curlers were shorter, whereas female curlers were taller. However, their weight and body fat percentage were lower, and their grip strength, absolute strength in the bench press, and 5-k wheelchair push-timing test were better. From an athlete development and physical training perspective, wheelchair curlers should increase training years in order to accumulate competition experience. Additionally, these athletes should manage their body weight and fat percentage, and improve their upper limb strength and aerobic capacity.

SUMMARY: This study aimed to investigate the physical fitness parameters of elite Chinese male canoe slalom athletes and explore the corresponding training strategies. Eight elite male slalom kayakers from the Chinese national team were selected as research subjects. The following parameters were measured: age, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), arm span, upper arm circumference, body fat percentage, maximum oxygen uptake, heart rate, blood lactic acid level, upper limb strength, and 300-m linear speed in flat water. Compared with elite international male slalom athletes, elite Chinese male slalom athletes had lower values for age, height, weight, BMI, arm span, and upper arm circumference, while body fat percentage, bench push, and bench pull values were greater, and the 300 m straight-line speed in flat water was slower. From an athlete development and physical training perspective, elite Chinese male slalom athletes should prioritize the accumulation of competitive experience instead of increasing training years in order to swiftly reach top international standards. Additionally, these athletes should manage their body fat percentage and improve their aerobic capacity, paddling skills, mechanical work, and linear speed in flat water.

OBJECTIVE@#To propose a multi-modality-based super-resolution synthesis model for reconstruction of routine brain magnetic resonance images (MRI) with a low resolution and a high thickness into high-resolution images.@*METHODS@#Based on real paired low-high resolution MRI data (2D T1, 2D T2 FLAIR and 3D T1), a structure-constrained image mapping network was used to extract important features from the images with different modalities including the whole T1 and subcortical regions of T2 FLAIR to reconstruct T1 images with higher resolutions. The gray scale intensity and structural similarities between the super-resolution images and high-resolution images were used to enhance the reconstruction performance. We used the anatomical information acquired from segment maps of the super-resolution T1 image and the ground truth by a segmentation tool as a significant constraint for adaptive learning of the intrinsic tissue structure characteristics of the brain to improve the reconstruction performance of the model.@*RESULTS@#Our method showed the performance on the testing dataset than other methods with an average PSNR of 33.11 and SSIM of 0.996. The anatomical structure of the brain including the sulcus, gyrus, and subcortex were all reconstructed clearly using the proposed method, which also greatly enhanced the precision of MSCSR for brain volume measurement.@*CONCLUSION@#The proposed MSCSR model shows excellent performance for reconstructing super-resolution brain MR images based on the information of brain tissue structure and multimodality MR images.

RESUMEN

To explore the effect of total extract of Chrysanthemum morifolium on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury in mice, we studied the effects of three caffeoyl quinic acids isolated from Chrysanthemum morifolium on vascular endothelial cell injury and their mechanisms of action. All animal experiments were carried out strictly in accordance with the National Animal Welfare Ethics and Protection Regulations. A mouse model of acute lung injury was established by intranasal instillation of LPS. After 6 days of oral administration of chrysanthemum extract, the lung wet weight/dry weight ratio, tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) were measured in mouse bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) were serum starved for 12 h and treated with 2.5 μg·mL-1 LPS for 24 h to establish the in vitro model of vascular endothelial cell injury. After 24 h of treatment of caffeoyl quinic acids from Chrysanthemum morifolium, the levels of TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β, vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) were measured by ELISA in the cell culture supernatant, the malondialdehyde (MDA) level was detected by TBA method, the superoxide dismutase (SOD) level was determined by hydroxylamine method, and the nitric oxide (NO) level was assayed by a one-step method. The levels of p-MEK1/2, MEK1/2, p-ERK1/2, ERK1/2, p-JNK, JNK, p-P38 and P38 of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway were detected by Western blot. The total extract of Chrysanthemum morifolium can significantly reduce the wet weight/dry weight ratio of lung in mice and the levels of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β in alveolar lavage fluid. The caffeoyl quinic acids from Chrysanthemum morifolium significantly increased the levels of SOD and NO, decreased the levels of TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β, VCAM-1, ET-1 and MDA, and significantly reduced the levels of p-MEK1/2, p-ERK1/2. In conclusion, total extracts of Chrysanthemum morifolium exhibit certain protective effect on mice with acute lung injury, and three caffeoyl quinic acids from Chrysanthemum morifolium may improve LPS-induced vascular endothelial cell injury by inhibiting inflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress, and regulating inter-cellular adhesion molecule and vasomotor factors through ERK/MAPK signaling pathway.

RESUMEN

Small intestinal obstruction is a common complication of primary gastrointestinal cancer or metastatic cancers.Patients with this condition are often poor candidates for surgical bypasses, and placement of self-expanding metal stent (SEMS) can be technically challenging. In this study,we examined the feasibility of combined application of single-balloon enteroscope (SBE) and colonoscope for SEMS placement in patients with malignant small intestinal obstruction.Thirty-four patients were enrolled in this study, among which 22 patients received SEMS placement by using SBE and colonoscope, while the other 12 patients received conservative medical treatment. The patients were followed up for one year.Stent placernent was technically feasible in 95.5% (21/22).Clinical improvement was achieved in 86.4% (19/22).For the 19 clinical success cases, the average time of benefits from a gastric outlet obstruction scoring system (GOOSS) increase ≥1 was 111.9±89.5 days. For the 12 patients receiving conservative medical treatment,no significant improvement in GOOSS score was observed. Moreover,a significant increase of Short-Form-36 health survey score was observed in the 19 patients at time of 30 days after stent placement.By Kaplan-Meier analysis,a significant survival improvement was observed in patients with successful SEMS placement, compared with patients receiving conservative medical treatment.Taken together, combined use of SBE and colonoscope makes endoscopic stent placement feasible in patients with malignant small intestinal obstruction, and patients can benefit from it in terms of prolonged survival and improved quality of life.

RESUMEN

abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of caffeine, tea polyphenol and daidzein on the pharmacokinetics of lansoprazole and its metabolites. Rats were intragastrically administered caffeine (30 mg·kg-1, once per day), tea polyphenol (400 mg·kg-1, once per day) or daidzein (13.5 mg·kg-1, once per day) for 14 days, followed by an intragastric administration of lansoprazole (8 mg·kg-1) on the 15th day. The plasma concentrations of lansoprazole and its two primary metabolites, 5-hydroxylansoprazole and lansoprazole sulfone, were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). Tea polyphenol significantly elevated the Area Under the Curve (AUC) of lansoprazole from 680.29 ± 285.99 to 949.76 ± 155.18 μg/L.h and reduced that of lansoprazole sulfone from 268.82 ± 82.37 to 177.72 ± 29.73 μg/L.h. Daidzein increased the AUC of lansoprazole from 680.29 ± 285.99 to 1130.44 ± 97.6 μg/L.h and decreased that of lansoprazole sulfone from 268.82 ± 82.37 to 116.23 ± 40.14 μg/L.h. The pharmacokinetics of 5-hydroxylansoprazole remained intact in the presence of tea polyphenol or daidzein. Caffeine did not affect the pharmacokinetics of lansoprazole and its metabolites. The results imply that tea polyphenol and daidzein may inhibit the in vivo metabolism of lansoprazole by suppressing CYP3A.

Mung bean seed coat (MBSC) is a healthcare product in Asian countries. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of an MBSC ethanol extract on the bioavailability of cyclosporine A (CsA) in rats. Rats were orally dosed with CsA alone or in combination with MBSC ethanol extracts (500 mg/kg, p.o.). The blood levels of CsA were assayed by liquid chromatography with an electrospray ionization source and tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The everted rat intestinal sac technique was used to determine the influence of MBSC on the absorption of CsA. The results reveal that combined CsA intake with MBSC decreased the Cmax, AUC0-t, t1/2z and MRT0-t values of CsA by 24.96%, 47.28%, 34.73% and 23.58%, respectively (P<0.05), and significantly raised the CL/F by 51.97% (P<0.01). The in vitro results demonstrated that significantly less CsA was absorbed (P<0.05). The overall results indicate that after being concomitantly ingested, MBSC reduced the bioavailability of CsA, at least partially, in the absorption phase.

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the clinical effect and mechanisms of specific sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) for the treatment of allergic rhinitis or asthma in children.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Thirty children suffering from Dermatophagoides farinae-allergic rhinitis or asthma (case group) and 30 healthy children (control group) were enrolled in this study. The case group accepted SLIT between January and December 2011. The ratio of forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and its expected value, the ratio of airway resistance and its expected value, peripheral blood eosinophil (Eos) count and serum levels of IL-17 and IL-35 were measured before treatment and one and two years after treatment. The rhinitis or asthma symptom scores were rated and the level of asthma control was monitored.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Serum IL-17 level in the case group was significantly higher than in the control group before treatment and one year after treatment (P<0.01). Furthermore, serum IL-17 level in the case group gradually decreased from before treatment to 1 year to 2 years after treatment (P<0.01). By two years of treatment, there was no significant difference in serum IL-17 level between the case and control groups (P>0.05). The changes of serum IL-35 level after treatment were opposite to serum IL-17 in the case group. The ratio of FEV1 and its expected value gradually increased from before treatment to 1 year to 2 years after treatment (P<0.01) in the case group. In contrast, the change of the ratio of airway resistance and its expected value and Eos count gradually decreased from before treatment to 1 year to 2 years after treatment (P<0.01) in the case group. More patients achieved improved rhinitis or asthma symptom scores two years after treatment than one year after treatment in the case group (P<0.01). SLIT was effective in 85% of children with allergic rhinitis one after treatment vs 100% two years after treatment. Asthma control was observed in 76% of the asthmatic patients one after treatment vs 92% two years after treatment.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>SLIT is effective for allergic rhinitis and asthma in children, and the treatment period of two years seems to be superior to one year. The mechanism of action of SLIT for the treatment of allergic rhinitis and asthma may be associated with inhibition of IL-17 expression and promotion of IL-35 expression.</p>

RESUMEN

Based on the water quality data from 2006 to 2008, grey relational analysis (GRA) is used to analyze factors that may have influence on the speciation of inorganic nitrogen in the Chengdu section of middle Min river. The results show that water temperature, changing from 20.2±2.7, 13.4±5.7 and 16.8±5.6oC, is the first restrictive factor for the speciation of inorganic nitrogen; it is negatively correlated with the ratio of total ammonia nitrogen to total inorganic nitrogen contents [m(AN)/m(TIN)] in three different periods of wet season, dry season and year-round. The average pH values for years, in wet and dry periods are 7.6±0.4, 7.3±0.3 and 7.8±0.2, respectively, and have different influences in different seasons. It is the second restrictive factor and positive correlation between pH and m(AN)/m(TIN) in wet season and through the year yet it is the fourth factor in dry seasons. The values of dissolved oxygen (DO), which are 4.6±1.4, 4.6±2.4, 4.6±2.0 respectively, is the third factor and negatively correlates with m(AN)/m(TIN) in third different periods. The chemical oxygen demand (COD) indirectly inhibits the nitrifying bacteria because the DO is depleted in the decomposition of organic matter by heterotrophic bacteria, showing the positive correlation. As the alkalinity can meet the requirement of nitrification in wet season and through the year, it is not restrictive factor. However, it is the second restrictive factor in dry season because of low content of alkalinity inhibiting the growth of nitrifying bacteria.

RESUMEN

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the expression of phosphatase of regeneration liver-3(PRL-3) protein and its relationship with tumor invasion and metastasis in human colorectal carcinoma, and elucidate prognostic value.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Immunohistochemistry method was applied to detect the PRL-3 expression in the primary tumor specimens and paired paratumor normal tissues from 46 colorectal carcinoma patients, the adenoma tissues from 6 patients with colorectal adenoma, all the metastatic lymph nodes from 29 cases and the metastatic liver lesions from 6 cases. The relationship between PRL-3 expression and clinicopathologic parameters was analyzed and a survival curve was achieved according to Kaplan-Meier method.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>No or weak PRL-3 protein expression was detected in normal colorectal mucosa and colorectal adenoma. In colorectal carcinoma tissues, PRL-3 expression was confirmed in 26 of 46 cases (56.5%) of primary colorectal carcinomas (with lymph node metastasis 63.0%, without lymph node metastasis 37.0%, P=0.001), 26 of 29 (89.7%) lymph node metastases, and 5 of 6 liver metastases. The expression of PRL-3 was assembled in the cytoplasm of carcinoma cells and more intensively on the cell membrane.Analysis of the relationship between PRL-3 expression and the clinicopathologic features showed that PRL-3 expression was closely associated with tumor stage (P=0.019), lymph node metastasis (P=0.026), but no relationship with age, sex, tumor size, degree of differentiation was founded (P<0.05). The mean follow-up time was 41.4 months and results showed that patients with positive expression of PRL-3 had a significantly poorer prognosis than those with negative PRL-3 expression group(P=0.032).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>PRL-3 protein plays a novel role in tumor progression and metastasis of colorectal carcinoma. PRL-3 can be expected to be a potential predictive biomarker for identifying the prognosis in colorectal carcinoma patients.</p>

RESUMEN

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the role of mast cells in the development of renal interstitial fibrosis in children with Henoch-Schonlein purpura nephritis (HSPN) and possible mechanisms.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Paraffin-embedded renal biopsy tissue sections from 20 children with HSPN were examined for the levels of tryptase-beta and transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-beta1) by immunohistochemical staining. Mast cells were counted by toluidine blue staining. Masson staining was used to assess the level of renal interstitial fibrosis and renal histopathological scores. Normal renal tissue sections from 5 nephrectomized children for nephroma were used as control group.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The percentages of positive tryptase-beta cellsand mast cells and the TGF-beta1 expression in the HSPN group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The percentages of positive tryptase-beta cells and mast cells and the TGF-beta1 expression in renal tissue were positively correlated with the glomeruli histopathological score (r =0.940, 0.920, 0.937, respectively; P < 0.05) and were also positively correlated with the histopathological score of renal interstitium (r=0.903, 0.859, 0.948, respectively; P < 0.05). The level of renal interstitial fibrosis was positively correlated with the percentages of positive tryptase-beta cells and mast cells and the expression of TGF-beta1 (r =0.790, 0.766, 0.858, respectively; P < 0.05). There was a positive correlation between the percentages of positive tryptase-beta cells and mast cells (r =0.941, P < 0.05), between the percentage of positive tryptase-beta cells and the TGF-beta1 expression (r =0.897, P < 0.05) and between the percentage of positive mast cells and the TGF-beta1 expression (r=0.942, P < 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Tubulointerstitial mast cell infiltration is associated with the development of renal interstitial fibrosis in children with HSPN. Mast cells together with TGF-beta1 and mast cell-derived tryptase-beta may be involved in the development of the renal interstitial fibrosis in HSPN.</p>

RESUMEN

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the incidence and angiographic features of exercise-induced ST-segment elevation in patients without prior myocardial infarction.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Exercise-induced ST-segment elevation occurred in 15 out of 4601 consecutive patients without prior myocardial infarction underwent treadmill exercise testing during a 2-year period. The coronary angiographic features of the 15 patients (13 males, aged between 40 - 75 years) were analyzed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Coronary angiography revealed one hemodynamically relevant stenotic vessel in 6 patients, two hemodynamically relevant stenotic vessels in 6 patients, three hemodynamically relevant stenotic vessels in 3 patients. Left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery was affected in 12 patients. Left main coronary artery (LMCA) stenosis was evidenced in 1 patient and right coronary artery stenosis in 7 patients. Severe (90% - 100%) occlusions were visualized in 8 out of 13 patients with LAD or LMCA lesions. Elevated ST-segment leads were consistent with the ischemic area where the blood supply of myocardium was affected by diseased vessels.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The incidence of exercise induced ST-segment elevation in patients without prior myocardial infarction is very low and mostly due to severe fixed coronary artery stenosis, especially in LAD. The location of ischemic myocardium can be suggested by ST-segment elevation leads during exercise.</p>

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the association between prodromal headache and the propensity of rebleeding after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.Method Prodromal headache was defined as a sudden attack of severe headache lasting at least one hour with or without accompanying symptoms, not leading to a diagnosis of SAH 4 weeks before the confirmation of subarachnoid hemorrhage. Two hundred and nine patients with aneurymal subarachnoid hemorrhage were enrolled in this research.Age,gender,Hunt-Hess grade,D-dimer, (FBG),site and number of aneurysms and prodromal headache were recorded.Patients were divided into rebleeding group and non-rebleeding group.Comparing the above survey components between two groups was carried out by using case control study method.Age,aneurysm number,D-dimer and fibrinogen of the two groups were analyzed by t test.Prodromal headache, gender, site of aneurysms were analyzed by chi square test.Hunt- Hess grade was analyzed by rank test. Results Twenty-two(10.5%)patients had rebleeding. In the rebleeding group,10 patients(45.5%)had prodromal headache, while in the non-rebleeding group(n=187),21 patients (11.2%)had prodromal headache.Patients with prodromal headache had greater propensity of rebleeding compared with those without prodromal headache(P

RESUMEN

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study lymph node involvement and micro-metastasis of rectal cancer with large slice technique and tissue microarray.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Large slice technique, combined with tissue microarray, was used in pathologic study of 31 patients after total mesorectal excision (TME) for rectal cancer.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Nine hundred and ninety- two lymph nodes were harvested and 148 were positive. More than 40% of positive lymph nodes were located in the outer layer of the mesorectum and in the same side of the mesorectum as the primary tumor was. Circumferential margin involvement was observed in 12 cases and correlated with the numbers of metastatic lymph nodes (Beta =1.166, P=0.041). Micrometastasis was found in 9 cases with negative pathological lymph nodes, but not correlated with tumor differentiation and stage (P> 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Large slice technique combined with tissue microarray facilitates the detection of lymph node involvement and micrometastasis. There is a predominance of lymph node metastasis in the outer layer and the same side of the mesorectum. Micrometastasis can be discovered in different stages of rectal cancer.</p>

RESUMEN

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To evaluate the clinical necessity of postoperative gastrointestinal decompression after operation on lower digestive tract.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Three hundred and sixty-eight patients who required excision and anastomosis of lower digestive tract were randomly divided into two groups, with or without receiving gastrointestinal decompression after operation. Clinical therapeutic efficacy and complications were compared between two groups.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The volume of gastrointestinal suction ranged from 10 ml to 520 ml each day after operation, and was less on the first day than those on the second and the third day after operation in decompression group. There was no significant difference in the average girth between two groups before and after operation. The average girths were shorter before operation than those after operation in two groups (P< 0.001). There was no significant difference in postoperative defecation and urination time between two groups (P > 0.05). The complication rate was significantly higher in decompression group than that in non-decompression group (28% vs. 8.2%, P< 0.001). The incidence of pharyngolaryngitis was up to 23.1% in decompression group. There was no difference in hospital stay between the two groups after operation.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The recovery of patients who receive excision and anastomosis of lower digestive tract will benefit from non-gastrointestinal decompression.</p>

RESUMEN

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the expression of phosphatase of regenerating liver-3 (PRL- 3) mRNA and evaluate its relationship with tumor invasion and metastasis in human colorectal carcinoma.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The expression level of PRL-3 mRNA was examined semi-quantitatively in surgically resected tumor specimens, paired paratumor normal tissues from 46 CRC patients, metastatic lymph nodes and liver metastases from 18 cases with metastasis, adenoma tissues from 6 patients with colorectal adenoma (CRA). In addition, the mutation of PRL-3 gene was examined by PCR-SSCP.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The PRL-3 mRNA level was increased in primary CRC tissues as compared with paired paratumor normal tissues (1.6+/- 0.7 vs. 0.4+/- 0.1, P< 0.01), while no significant difference of its expression was found between CRA tissues and their adjacent normal mucosae (P> 0.05). However, the PRL-3 mRNA levels of liver metastases (2.1+/- 0.8) in 12 cases and metastatic lymph nodes (3.3+/- 1.0) in 6 cases were significantly higher compared with the matched primary lesions, normal tissues and negative-lymph nodes (P< 0.01). There was significant relation of the expression of PRL-3 mRNA with the clinicopathological features including Dukes stage, invasion depth and metastasis (P< 0.05), but no relation with sex, tumor size, degree of differentiation was found (P> 0.05). Abnormal electrolysis band was found in 1 of 6 cases with liver metastasis by PCR-SSCP analysis.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>PRL-3 gene plays an important role in tumor invasion and metastasis and may associated with carcinogenesis and development of CRC. There might exist some unknown mechanisms of overexpression and mutation of PRL-3 gene in CRC.</p>
